The Midwestern Table at Herstry
Why I’ll Eat Anything
As part of a call for “Feast” essays, Herstory has published my piece, “The Midwestern Table.” As you read it, I hope you laugh, cringe, and finally understand why I could never be a picky eater.
All the “Feast” theme essays can be found here (I am in good company):
Herstry: The Feast

I am often struck, as I read your wonderful stories, by the similarities in our experiences. Our mothers must have swapped recipes; so many of your family standards appeared on our table as well. The only one we missed was Spameeta, and I deeply regret that!
I do not have a grinder to make it, or, to be honest, the stomach. Otherwise I’d happily make it for you. Also, I’m glad to know your childhood table also groaned under the weight of all that soup.
